The Federal Self-employed Program allows foreign nationals to immigrate to Canada as Self-employed persons. This program is aimed at those who have relevant experience in cultural activities and athletics.

 

There are 3 immigration streams for the Self-employed immigration pathway namely:  

 

  •    Federal Self-employed program
  •    Quebec Self-employed program
  •    Provincial nominee programs for Self-employed workers.

 

The Federal Self-employed Program uses a point based grading system to assess the eligibility of the applicants. This program requires that applicants must have 2 years of relevant work experience within their field as proof that they can be Self-employed in any Canadian province except Quebec.

 

Québec Self-employed Program is almost same with the Canadian Federal Self-employed Program, the only exception is that it requires the applicant’s ability to demonstrate that they can be successfully Self-employed within their industry. The Quebec Self-employed Program also requires that applicants must have a net worth of at least $100,000 and also the intention of residing in the Quebec province.

 

 Provincial Nominee Programs for Self-employed workers allows for Self-employed persons to settle in a particular province in Canada. Each province has its own requirements and selection criteria. You can choose to apply under any provinces Self-employed stream of the Provincial Nominee Program.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR THE SELF-EMPLOYED PROGRAM?

To immigrate to Canada as a Self-employed person:

  •  You must have at least 2 years relevant experience in cultural activities or athletics at a world class level or been a Self-employed person in cultural activities or athletics.
  •  You must be willing to be Self-employed in Canada.
  •  You must meet the program selection criteria.
  •  You must meet medical, security and other conditions.
  •  You must have a Medical exam and get Police certificates.
  •  If you are coming with your family to Canada under this program same applies to your family members.
  •  You must also show that you have enough money to support yourself and your family in Canada.  
  •   You are assessed and selected on this program based on your Experience, Education, Age, Language Abilities and Adaptability.

Applicants are awarded points in the following order:

  • Education 25 points
  • Experience 35 points
  • Age 10 points
  • Language Proficiencies 24 points
  • Adaptability 6 points

For a total score of 100 points. Successful candidates will have a minimum passing score of 35 points that is subject to change. Candidates will be selected based on their scores for each category. The documents they provide with their application and whether or not they meet the standards of a Self-employed person in Canada.
